Mentor a student

Make a big difference to a student's life and future career by mentoring them.

Mentoring is a catalyst for personal and professional growth. Mentoring helps students to facilitate their own development, on their own terms. Mentors assist students in planning their development and can offer support in recalibrating when things don’t go as planned.

Mentoring is common in many workplaces as mentoring can help people to reach their potential and explore the things they are most passionate about.

Please note, our mentoring programmes do not help with study skills.

The mentoring programmes provide support to current University of 69成人网 students; undergraduate, postgraduate, part-time and full-time from across the university. There are five programmes available, you can find out more below.

What's the time commitment?

There are 2 different options Goal focused mentoring and Recruitment Ready Mentoring.

Goal focused mentoring lasts for between 4 and 6 months, and you will meet with a student mentee approximately every 2 weeks for up to an hour.

Recruitment-Ready Mentoring in a six week programme where you will meet with a student mentee 3 times for 60 – 90 minutes.

How do I get involved?

Complete a short application form and once this is received, we will contact you to tell you more about the programme and provide training. We do not guarantee to match you with a student.

Which mentoring programme?

Momentum

All current students at the university are eligible to join the Momentum programme.

We particularly want to reach students who are care experienced or estranged from their families, students with a disability, students from low socio-economic backgrounds, repeating students, students who are the first in their family to attend university.

Identity Mentoring Match

This mentoring programme matches students and mentors who are affiliated by skin colour, heritage or a shared experience of being racialised.

Uni-Amex LGBTQ+

The University partners with the Pride Network at American Express to match students and mentors who identify as:

  • Lesbian
  • Gay
  • Bisexual
  • Trans
  • Non-Binary
  • Queer

And all sexualities, genders and identities that are included under the plus

Men in Primary Education

The Men in Primary Education mentoring programme aims to counter the low numbers of male role models in primary education. If you are a current male primary school teacher, you can offer support to a man training to teach in primary schools. You will have the opportunity to share your knowledge and experience.

Recruitment-Ready Mentoring

Recruitment-Ready Mentoring programme is a focused 6 week programme for second year or final year students.

Mentors are provided with session plans and resources to support student mentees to;

  1. Identify their skill set, attributes and values.
  2. Plan how they can develop their skill set.
  3. Learn how to promote their skills and talents effectively in the recruitment process.”
