When you begin

We’ll help you get off to the best start possible by providing you with a range of learning resources and access to a dedicated support network.

With access to a vast range of online and other resources, as well as support from other students on your course, you'll be able to study and learn with confidence.

Learning resources

We have two online platforms that you’ll use every day to gain quick and easy access to information and resources that support your learning:

  • My 69成人网 gives you access to your timetable, university email account and other key information and resources. It can be accessed on your laptop and mobile phone and you’ll be expected to check it regularly for updates.
  • My Studies gives you access to our online learning platforms, course and assessment materials from your tutors, and other study-related content as well as pointing you to other study support services, like our libraries.

You'll be able to log in to My 69成人网 after you online enrol. Then, when you access My Studies through My 69成人网 you’ll be automatically signed in.

Libraries

Our three campus libraries are here to support learning and teaching across the university.

At each campus library you will find:

  • friendly teams of library helpdesk and subject specialist staff who can provide drop-in and bookable 121 support to help you get the most from our resources
  • an extensive collection of print, ebooks and online journals to support teaching and research
  • bookable group study rooms
  • separate areas for group work and silent study
  • open access and bookable computers
  • desktop and mobile printing, photocopying and scanning facilities
  • 99 book loan limit with automatic renewals and no fines on late returned books.

Media and computing

Students have access to over 500 open access computers at computer rooms located on each campus and a range of media production facilities. Our IT and media services include:

  • bookable and open access computers for general study use or participation in online learning via Teams
  • desktop and mobile printing, photocopying and scanning facilities
  • access to specialist software to directly support campus teaching
  • students and staff are entitled to  on up to five devices for free
  • access to TV studio, photography studio, editing suite, media streaming service and video conferencing facilities
  • current students and staff can access full  and  via our homepages (login required).

Disability and learning support

We're committed to providing an inclusive and supportive learning environment for our students. We have a dedicated Disability and Learning Support team that can support you throughout your studies.

You may have applied to university already knowing about a disability, or you might discover that you have a disability, or develop a disability during your time with us. Our lecturers always have relevant, up-to-date experience in the topic they teach, while they are also interested in our ideas. Collaborating with other students has also been a key part of the course and it is really motivating to see how others are invested in group projects.

From your course tutors and your own personal academic tutor, to our librarians and technical support staff, you'll have an expert team behind you every step of the way. And dedicated professionals can help you in developing your study skills and employability skills.

Skills Hub

The Skills Hub is a dedicated team of recent graduates and experienced academic tutors that helps you develop your academic skills and confidence, so that you can achieve your full potential in both your education and your career.

The range of support that you can access through the Skills Hub includes:

  1. Academic skills tutorials: you can book 1:1 appointments with academic skills tutors to discuss your approach to written assignments and improve your academic techniques
  2. Writing Advisory Service (WAS): you can submit a portion a draft assignment to receive developmental feedback
  3. Speaking and language skills: regular sessions are available for international and non-English speaking students to practice spoken English and join a supportive peer community
  4. Maths and statistics support: dedicated help is available if you need assistance with these subjects.

Each of our three campuses has a Skills Hub. You'll be able to access more information, and book appointments, on My 69成人网 once your course starts.

PATs and SSGTs

To help you make the most out of your time at the University of 69成人网, you will be assigned a Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) at the beginning of your degree to help you develop skills to achieve your goals, such as guiding you through assessment feedback from all of your modules.

Your PAT will be one of the academic staff within your schools and will be your support for all academic aspects of your degree which isn’t related to the content of any individual modules.

PATs are also able to support you with planning for your future, and can refer you to a Career Development Adviser for your school if you would like to talk through your ideas or get support with developing your skills and your career.

Our Student Support and Guidance Tutors (SSGTs) are dedicated to supporting you with any issues that might be impacting your studies, your wellbeing and your experience with us.

You can talk through anything affecting your ability to achieve with your SSGT, including:

  • health, wellbeing and self-care
  • anxiety and stress-related issues
  • Additional Considerations applications and processes
  • motivation, procrastination and time-management
  • isolation, loneliness and homesickness
  • accommodation issues
  • difficulties with your course - guidance on intermission, transfers and withdrawal
  • discrimination, bullying and harassment - reporting and support.

Each academic school has at least one SSGT. You will usually get to meet your SSGT in the first few weeks of starting university.

Careers and placements

The Careers and Employability team is here to support you from your first day at university.

They can help you:

  • decide what career is right for you
  • develop the skills you will need to follow it
  • and get a job when you finish your studies.

They also offer a range of resources, and support and advice about volunteering, mentoring and starting a business.

Many of our courses provide work placements or other professional work-based opportunities.

A placement can offer you a taste of what life is really like in your chosen field, provide useful work experience and give you a chance to impress potential employers.

Doing a placement will enhance your career prospects by giving you the opportunity to:

  • extend skills that you already have and develop new ones
  • build your confidence
  • gain knowledge of the professional environment
  • apply your theoretical knowledge to real-world situations
  • develop specific vocational and personal skills
  • make contacts in your chosen industry
  • gain transferable work experience and skills such as communication and team working
  • earn a salary.
