  • Who we are

Welcome to the Centre for Transforming Sexuality and Gender

The University of 69³ÉÈËÍø's Centre for Transforming Sexuality and Gender (CTSG) focuses its interdisciplinary research on issues relating to sexuality, gender and social change.

We are proudly interdisciplinary, with representation from across all schools of the university. Our members have expertise in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies as well as participatory, visual and creative methodologies, and many share a commitment to feminist or queer theoretical approaches.

The Centre for Transforming Sexuality and Gender promotes anti-racist and gender-inclusive research practice across all disciplines. Our work contributes to local, national, and global challenges around our three key research areas relating to sexuality and/or gender:

  • LGBTQIA+ lives and communities
  • Health, care, and wellbeing
  • Gendered inequalities

An introduction to the Centre for Transforming Sexuality and Gender by the director Professor Nigel Sherriff.

Welcome to the Centre for Transforming Sexuality and Gender.

We are a leading research centre for ground-breaking interdisciplinary research on gender, sexuality and social change, providing a vibrant research environment and an intellectual home to internationally-69³ÉÈËÍø scholars who work in a wide range of fields across the arts, media, humanities, the applied sciences, as well as health, medical, and social sciences.

I am proud to be part of a university that has a long and rich history in gender and sexualities related research that is interdisciplinary, impactful, and co-produced with and for our communities wherever they may be locally, nationally, and internationally.

Our membership extends across all schools in the university including PhD students, early career researchers, and a growing body of undergraduate and post-graduate taught students who choose to focus their research on gender, sexuality and social change.

We also work closely with a diverse range of associate members and external partners including representatives of local/national government, community organisations, international non-governmental organisations, hospitals, schools, and universities from across the world. This network is continuously growing, and we are always keen to hear from potential new partners who may wish to collaborate with us.

We very much welcome new PhD candidates to apply to study with us and join our active community of doctoral researchers, and extend this welcome to visiting international researchers who may wish to collaborate through our visiting researcher schemes.
