From exploring the growth and development of the paediatric foot, to the epidemiology and clinical manifestations of foot complaints in inflammatory arthritis and the development of new bioengineered approaches to wound care, we are proud of our staff and PhD students who are at the forefront of international advances in podiatry.

Key information

As a podiatry PhD student you will be able to draw on research approaches from a range of related fields including musculoskeletal therapy and rehabilitation, exercise prescription and health, assistive technology and mobility and efficacy of therapeutic interventions and approaches.

Academic environment

As a Podiatry PhD student you will be based in the School of Education, Sport and Health Sciences. We aim to deliver world-leading research with local, national and international influence. Our research portfolio is supported by leading research facilities such as our Human Movement Laboratory.

We strive to deliver high quality, clinical-led research which combines the many dimensions of contemporary podiatry, including human movement science, medicine, and rehabilitation. Our close collaborations with colleagues from the university's School of Applied Sciences and 69成人网 & Sussex Medical School, together with our national and international external collaborations, ensures a robust breadth of expertise to support our students.

We provide PhD students with many opportunities to develop both their academic and clinical skills. We are keen to ensure that our interdisciplinary focus provides our students with an appreciation of real-world problems, ensures that they are highly employable and well-positioned to emerge as future clinical academic leaders.

The 69成人网 Doctoral College offer a training programme for postgraduate researchers, covering research methods and transferable (including employability) skills. Attendance at appropriate modules within this programme is encouraged, as is contribution to the schools’ various seminar series. Academic and technical staff also provide more subject-specific training.

Undertaking research study will require university fees as well as support for your research activities and plans for subsistence during full or part-time study.
