Accommodation

Our accommodation team have excellent local knowledge and many years of experience. They’ll advise you on all the options open to you, and help you find your new home.

Options include:

  • university-managed halls
  • private rented accommodation (which gives you more choice over where to live and who with).
  • university-managed homestay accommodation (where students live in the home of a local host in 69成人网).

University-managed halls

When will I hear about my accommodation?

If you booked university accommodation, you will receive your accommodation offer in the summer.

  • If you hold an unconditional academic offer, we will contact you about your accommodation offer from July onwards.
  • If you hold a conditional academic offer, we will contact you after your place at the university is confirmed. For many students this is from mid to late August.

You will receive your accommodation offer by email. When a room offer is made, you have three days from the sent date to accept the offer.

How do I accept?

To accept an offer for university halls you will need to make an advance payment of 7 days’ rent.

If you are made an offer for one of our nominated private halls, you will be sent a unique link to secure your room booking directly with the halls provider. An advance payment of rent and UK guarantor will be required. Your contract will be directly with the halls provider, and subject to their terms and conditions.

Once your offer has been accepted we will be in touch about arrival dates and times.

I joined a Facebook group for the halls I would be staying in. Through this I found three people that I am living with and this meant when we did move in, it was a lot less awkward and it was like we were already friends.
  • You can move into your room from the date your accommodation contract starts, you will receive this via email. Most of our contracts begin in mid-late September, we will invite you to book an arrival slot at the end of August or start of September.

  • The university provides in each flat a kettle, a toaster, a microwave, one or two fridge freezers, an oven, and a dining table/breakfast bar.

    Students will need to bring their own towels and tea towels, crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils as well as their own saucepans, frying pans, and baking trays, see our what to bring checklist for details.

    If you will be living in Mithras, you will need to bring induction pans. For more information about what to bring with you and what items are provided by the university, we would recommend reading through our .

  • Students are not permitted to bring their own kitchen appliances with them to halls, as these are already provided. We do not allow the use of mini fridges in bedrooms unless this has been specifically requested on medical grounds and organised with the accommodation team.

    If you wish to bring a small kitchen appliance, e.g. an air fryer, you can do so but these items must be stored in the kitchen area and be PAT tested. Any other equipment consuming more than 500 watts is prohibited. Please ensure that you do not overload your sockets with too many appliances.

  • Yes, you can decorate your room to make it feel homely, we ask that you do not stick anything on the walls but instead use the pin board provided in your room. You can also personalise your space with LED fairy lights, framed photos and prints, small houseplants, cushions and soft furnishings.

  • University cleaners will clean on a weekly basis the communal areas of your flat as part of your accommodation contract, this includes bathrooms/toilets in flats with shared bathrooms. They will not clear up after you or do the washing up – this is your responsibility.

    Students with an ensuite bathroom will be required to clean this themselves and all students are responsible for keeping their bedrooms clean and tidy.

  • It is always best to report any maintenance issue in halls directly to the hall's team within 24 hours of becoming aware of the problem.There will be different ways to report maintenance at each of our halls, such as through a web form or app, and you will be provided with details about this when you move in. Alternatively, you can make a report directly to the staff on the reception desk of your halls. If your repair is urgent, you should contact a member of the hall's team at the reception desk on-site in the first instance so that repairs can be organised.

  • You may be allocated to a flat with any other students who applied for accommodation. All of our flats are mixed gender, and usually you and your flatmates will be studying on various different courses. Students are grouped together with other students of a similar age, wherever possible. We will invite all students who have accepted an offer in university halls to join a Facebook group specifically for their halls site. You can join your halls group and connect with the students you’ll be living with. The invitations will be sent before you move in, around early September.

  • Students who have declared a medical condition or disability are able to request medical priority when they submit their application for accommodation. This means that you will be prioritised during our allocation process and manually allocated to a suitable room in halls that would accommodate your needs.

  • You will be sharing accommodation with some other students so try not to bring too much. There is enough cupboard storage for everyone and when you move in speak with your flat mates to divide the space fairly and respect other people's space and belongings.

  • Our Residential Wellbeing team can assist with conflict resolution and provide wellbeing support to students living in halls. Within this team, we have Student Residential Advisers (SRAs) that can support you by arranging flat meetings to help mitigate any issue or conflict in the flat. Our Residential Wellbeing Coordinators can offer further support where needed.

  • Unfortunately, students are not allowed to bring pets with them into their halls of residence and doing so would put you in breach of your accommodation contract.

  • Students are welcome to have guests stay overnight with them in halls, for up to 2 nights in any 7 night period. Students must sign their guests in at the reception desk on-site to comply with fire safety regulations in the event of an evacuation.

  • The university will charge you for the cost of putting right any damage caused. Where damage is caused anonymously in a shared communal area the university is entitled to charge each student for a proportion of the costs.

  • All of our halls and campuses have secure bike parking facilities available, as well as bike repair kits and pumps. You can ask about these at your hall’s reception desk.

  • If you accidentally lock yourself out of your room just go to your hall's reception and speak with the staff. They will ask you some security questions and then they will be able to let you back in your room. If happens at night all our halls of residence have night security, they might need to check an ID after they let you back in the room.

  • If you have lost your key, you will need to go to the hall’s reception desk on site to request a replacement. Please be aware, you may be subject to a replacement charge for your lost key.

  • Our ability to offer you your first choice depends on your position on our booking list. After submitting your booking preference, you will be assigned a random, computer-generated allocation number which will determine your position on the booking list. We will then aim to offer you a room from one of your four room preferences. The majority of students receive their first or second preference and once the room offer is made you cannot change it.

    The university maintains a one-offer policy, which means that we are only able to send one room offer per student. When students apply for accommodation, they are required to confirm that they accept the terms and conditions of our allocation policy before applying.

    You are welcome to reject your room offer via the application portal, however, we will not be able to send you an alternative offer of a room and you will be required to look into alternative accommodation options. We can advise on alternative accommodation in the private rented sector.

  • Students are encouraged not to bring a car with them to halls, wherever possible. If you want to bring a car with you, you must have a valid e-permit to park in university car parks. E-permit applications are assessed by our parking team and will only be granted to students who meet the eligibility criteria. We can offer you support with finding the right accommodation and people to live with in the private rented sector. There is currently a good supply of private rented accommodation available and many students prefer this option as they can choose where and who to live with.
