Day-to-day support

Student Support Desk

Our Student Support Desk Advisers are your first point of contact for information, advice and guidance on our wellbeing services.

Student Support and Guidance Tutors

SSGTs can help with all sorts of issues that might be impacting your studies.

Residential wellbeing (halls)

Our Residential Wellbeing team support students who live in halls, helping you to feel welcome and supporting your transition to uni life.

Health services and issues

The health services team are there for you if you are experiencing health issues, or just want to stay healthy.

Faith and spirituality

Our faith advisors can help and advise on social, academic or spiritual matters, whatever your faith and wherever you are.

Finance-related issues

The Student Advice Service can support you with finance-related issues, like making sure you are getting the correct funding.

Offering free, confidential advice to all students, Monday to Friday all year round.

Specialist support for international students

Providing specialist advice on immigration, visas, orientation, settling in, post-study work routes, and general advice to our international student community.

Build your support network

If you need reassurance and a bit of structure to help you with your mental health and wellbeing, try Togetherall. It’s a safe, anonymous online community with tools to help you cope and space to share how you’re feeling with other members. Watch the video to find out more.

Our mentoring programmes can help you to set goals and stay on track with your studies. Our mentors are keen to support you, build confidence, and help you to fulfil your potential.

Focused support

Disability and learning support

Learning Support Coordinators support students in a number of ways, including putting a learning support plan together.

LGBTQ+ support

The university is committed to being an inclusive and supportive environment. We provide a range of support for LGBTQ+ students including our mentoring programme with American Express.

Pregnancy and parenthood

We provide a range of services to students who become pregnant or a parent during your studies.

Extra support

If you think you need a bit more help, please register with our wellbeing services and we’ll find the right kind of support for you.

Book a counselling assessment

Need to speak to someone

Register with our wellbeing service, which can include counselling and a range of other wellbeing support.

Harassment, discrimination, violence or abuse support

If you witness or experience an incident you can disclose this to us, by name or anonymously, and get support.

Safeguarding

The university has clear procedures and processes for responding to safeguarding concerns. Should you be concerned about yourself or someone else, please speak to your SSGT in the first instance.

Concerned about one of your fellow students?

If you are concerned about a fellow student, you can

  • Call 999 if you feel there is an immediate risk to their safety or the safety of others.
  • Speak to your Student Support Guidance Tutor or Student Support Desk Adviser, who can help escalate the concern appropriately.
  • If comfortable to do so, advise the student of the Support Network available to them.
